SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 113-115

TRANSLATION:

[3:113]
Not all of them are alike: Among the people of the Book there are those who are steadfast; they recite the verses of Allah in the night hours, and they prostrate themselves; {37}
[3:114]
they believe in Allah and the Hereafter, and bid the Fair and forbid the Unfair, and hasten towards good deeds. They are among the righteous.
[3:115]
Whatever good they do, they shall never go unappreciated for it. Allah is All-Aware of the God-fearing.

INTERPRETATION:

{37} This pertains to those People of the Book who had embraced Islam, for example, Hazrat Abdullah Bin Salam RAA.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 110-112

TRANSLATION:

[3:110]
You are the best Ummah ever raised for mankind. You bid the Fair and forbid the Unfair, and you believe in Allah. If the people of the Book had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them, there are believers, while most of them are sinners.
[3:111]
They shall never (be able to) cause you any harm except a little hurt. If they fight you, they will turn their backs on you, then they shall not be helped.
[3:112]
Disgrace has been stamped over them wherever they are found, unless (saved) through a source from Allah and through a source from men, and they have returned with wrath from Allah, and misery has been stamped over them. All this is because they used to deny the signs of Allah, and to slay the prophets unjustly. All this is because they disobeyed and transgressed the limits.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 105-109

TRANSLATION:

[3:105]
Do not be like those who became divided and fell into disputes after the clear signs had come to them. Those are the ones for whom there is a grave punishment
[3:106]
on a day when some faces shall turn bright, and some faces shall turn dark. As for those whose faces turn dark, (they shall be questioned): "Did you disbelieve after you had accepted the Faith? {36} Now taste the punishment, because you used to disbelieve."
[3:107]
As for those whose faces turn bright, they will rest in Allah's mercy. They will live there forever.
[3:108]
These are the verses of Allah We recite to you with all veracity. Allah does not intend to do injustice to (anyone in) the worlds.
[3:109]
To Allah belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth. To Allah all matters are returned.

INTERPRETATION:

{36} If this relates to People of the Book then accepting the faith refers to them accepting Torah. If this relates to the Hypocrites (at the time of the Holy Prophet ﷺ) then this refers to their verbal proclamation that they had embraced Islam while not believing it in their hearts. A third possibility is that this relates to those people who had left the fold of Islam at any time. As in the previous verses Muslims have been warned not to leave the fold of Islam, therefore, here it has been described what will happen to those people on the Day of Judgment who had relinquished their faith.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 104

TRANSLATION:

[3:104]
There has to be a group of people from among you who call towards the good, and bid the Fair and forbid the Unfair. And it is these who are successful.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 102-103

TARNSLATION:

page48image21240
[3:102]
O you who believe, fear Allah, as He should be feared, and let not yourself die save as Muslims.

[3:103]
Hold fast, all of you, to the cord of Allah, and be not divided. Remember the blessing of Allah upon you: When you were enemies to each other, and He brought your hearts together, so that, you became brothers through His blessing. You were at the brink of a pit of Fire, then He saved you from it. This is how Allah makes His signs clear to you, so that you may take the right path.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 98-101

TRANSLATION:

[3:98]
Say, "O people of the Book, why do you reject the verses of Allah while Allah is witness to what you do?"
[3:99]
Say, "O people of the Book, why do you hinder the believers from the way of Allah, trying to create crookedness in it, while you yourselves are witnesses (to its being the right way)? Allah is not oblivious of what you do."
[3:100]
O you who believe, if you obey a group from those who have been given the Book, they will turn you into infidels after you have embraced the faith.
[3:101]
How could you disbelieve while you are the ones to whom the verses of Allah are recited, and present amidst you is His Messenger? Whoever holds on to Allah, is surely led to the straight path.

INTERPRETATION:

The verses from here till verse number 108 have been revealed about a specific incident. There were two tribes living in Medinah called Aws and Khazarj. Before Islam came there was great enmity between them. There were often wars between them which went on for years. When the people from both he tribes converted to Islam their enmity subsided and they started living together peacefully. Some People of the Book did not like their unity at all. Once when the two tribes were together a person just couldn't tolerate their peace and harmony anymore. To create discord between the two tribes he asked another person to recite those verses which the poets of Aws and Khazarj had said against each other's tribes during one of their long wars. That person started reciting those verses. That led to old disputes rekindled. Initially the people from the two tribes started arguing. Then it escalated further and they started setting a date for the next war.

When the Holy Prophet ﷺ heard this he was greatly saddened. He went to those people and counselled them that it was all a trick of the Satan. The dispute subsided after the Holy Prophet ﷺ counselled them. In these verses Allah Ta'alah has addressed the People of the Book that at first you should embrace Iman (faith). If you are deprived of this great blessing at least do not misguide those people who have embraced the true path. After this Allah Ta'alah has advised the Muslims, and has advise them if they want to avoid disputes amongst themselves then they should busy themselves with preaching and spreading the word of Allah. This will lead to unity as well, in addition to disseminating the message of Allah.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 96-97

TRANSLATION:

[3:96]
The first house set up for the people is surely the one in Makkah having blessings and guidance for all the worlds.

[3:97]
In it there are clear signs: The Station of Ibrahim! Whoever enters it is secure. As a right of Allah, it is obligatory on the people to perform Hajj of the House on everyone who has the ability to manage (his) way to it. If one disbelieves, then Allah is independant of all the worlds.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 93-95

TRANSLATION:

[3:93]
Every (kind of) food was lawful for the children of Isra‘il, except what Isra‘il had made unlawful for himself, well before the Torah was revealed. Say, "Then, bring the Torah and recite it, if you are true".
[3:94]
Then those who forge the lie against Allah, after all this,__ they are the transgressors.
[3:95]
Say, "Allah has told the truth. So, follow the Faith of Ibrahim, the upright one. He was not one of those who ascribe partners to Allah".

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 91-92

TRANSLATION:

[3:91]
Those who disbelieve and die as disbelievers, even an Earth-full of gold shall never be accepted from any of them, even if one were to offer it as ransom. They are the ones for whom there is a painful punishment, and for them there are no helpers.
[3:92]
You shall never attain righteousness unless you spend from what you love. Whatsoever you spend, Allah is fully aware of it.

INTERPRETATION:

Previously in verse 267 of Surah Al-Baqarah the command was given that don't just give your rubbish as charity, but also spend in the way of Allah from what good things you have. This verse goes even further by saying that it is not enough to give good things in the way of Allah, in fact spend from what you love, in Allah's way. That would be the real sacrifice. When this verse was revealed the Holy Companions (Sahaba) started giving their most favourite things as Sadaqah (charity). Many such incidents have been reported in the books of Tafsir (Interpretation of the Holy Quran) and Hadith (sayings of the Holy Prophet ﷺ). For details please Ma'ariful Quran (Urdu), volume 2, page 107-108.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 86-90

TRANSLATION:

[3:86]
How shall Allah give guidance to a people who disbelieved after they had accepted Faith and testified that the Prophet is true and the clear signs had come to them? Allah does not give guidance to the unjust people.
[3:87]
The punishment of such people is that upon them is the curse of Allah, of the angels and of the human beings altogether.
[3:88]
They will remain under it forever. Neither will the punishment be lightened for them, nor will they be given respite,
[3:89]
except those who repent afterwards and mend their ways. Then, Allah is All-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.
[3:90]
Those who disbelieve after having accepted Faith and then increase in disbelief, their repentance shall never be accepted. {31} They are the ones who have lost the right path.

INTERPRETATION:

{31} It means that until such time that they do Taubah (repentance) from Kufr (disbelief)and embrace Iman (true faith), their repentance from other sins will not be accepted.

Sunday 20 August 2017

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 82-85

TRANSLATION:

[3:82]
Then those who turn back after this, they are the sinful.

[3:83]
Are they, then, seeking a religion other than that of Allah, while to Him alone submit all those in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwilling, {30} and to Him they shall be returned?

[3:84]
Say, "We believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to us and in what was revealed to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq , Yaqub and the descendants, and in what has been given to Musa, Isa and the prophets, from their Lord: We do not differentiate between any of them; and to Him we submit ourselves."

[3:85]
Whoever seeks a faith other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

INTERPRETATION:

It means that Allah Ta'alah rules this entire universe. The believers gladly accept all of Allah Ta'alah's commandments. Even those people who do not believe in Allah Ta'alah have to accept all the decisions He makes for the running of this world. For example, if Allah Ta'alah decides to make someone sick, then whether someone likes that decision or not, it does implemented regardless, and whether a person is a believer or a non-believer, they have no recourse but to submit to Allah's will.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 79-81

TRANSLATION:

[3:79]
It is not (possible) for a man that Allah gives him the Book, the wisdom and the prophethood, then he starts saying to the people "Become my worshippers, aside from Allah" {29}, rather, (he would say), "Be men of the Lord; as you have been teaching the Book, and as you have been learning it."

[3:80]
Nor is it (possible for him) that he bids you to hold the angels and the prophets as Lords. Shall he bid you to disbelieve, after your having become Muslims?

[3:81]
When Allah made the prophets enter into a covenant: (saying) "If I give you a book and wisdom, then comes to you a messenger verifying what is with you, you shall have to believe in him, and you shall have to support him." He said, "Do you affirm and accept my covenant in this respect?" They said, "We affirm". He said, "Then, bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

INTERPRETATION:

{29} This is a rejection of the claim of those Christians who, by pronouncing that Hazrat Isa AS (Jesus) was God or the son of God, were actually claiming that Hazrat Isa AS ordered them to worship himself. Similarly, there were some sects of Jews who believed that Hazrat Uzair AS was the son of God.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 76-78

TRANSLATION:

[3:76]
Why (will they) not (be blamed)? Whoever fulfils his pledge and fears Allah, then, Allah loves the God-fearing.

[3:77]
Surely, those who take a small price by (breaking) the covenant of Allah and their oaths, for them there is no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will neither speak to them, nor will He look towards them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He purify them. For them there is a painful punishment.

[3:78]
Among them there is indeed a group who twist their tongues while (reading) the Book, so that you may deem it to be from the Book, while it is not from the Book. They say, "It is from Allah", while it is not from Allah; and they tell lies about Allah knowingly.

Thursday 17 August 2017

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 73-75

TRANSLATION:

[3:73]
But do not believe (for real) except in those who follow your faith.. Say, "(Real) guidance is the guidance of Allah. (But all that you do is due to your envy) that someone is given what is similar to that which you have been given, or that they argue against you before your Lord." Say, "The bounty is in the hands of Allah. He gives it to whom He wills. Allah is All- Embracing, All-Knowing.
[3:74]
He chooses for His grace whom He wills. Allah is the Lord of great bounty."
[3:75]
Among the people of the Book there is one who, if you entrust him with a heap (of gold or silver), will give it back to you; and among them there is one who, if you entrust him with a single dinar (a coin of gold), he will not give it back to you, unless you keep standing over him. This is because they have said, "There is no way we can be blamed in the matter of the unlettered." And they tell lies about Allah knowingly.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 68-72

TRANSLATION:

[3:68]
The closest of people to Ibrahim are those who followed him, and this prophet, and those who believe; and Allah is the Guardian of all believers.

[3:69]
A group from the people of the Book loves to mislead you, while they mislead none but themselves, and they do not realize.

[3:70]
O people of the Book, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allah (revealed in the former Scriptures to foretell about the advent of the Holy Prophet ?) while you are yourselves witnesses {27} (to those verses)?

[3:71]

O People of the Book, why do you confound the truth with falsehood, and conceal the truth when you know (the reality)?

[3:72]
And a group from the people of the Book said (to their people), "Believe in what has been revealed to the believers in the early part of the day, and disbelieve at the end of it, so that they may turn back. {28}

[3:73]
But do not believe (for real) except in those who follow your faith"...

INTERPRETATION:

{27} Here the word 'verses' refers to those verses of Torah and Injil (Bible) in which it was revealed that one day the Holy Prophet ﷺ will come. What it means is that on the one hand these people proclaimed that they believed that Torah and Injil were the books of Allah, but on the other hand they denied the Prophethood of Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa ﷺ, which amounted to rejecting the verses of these divine books.

{28} To make Muslims lose their faith in Islam, during the time of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, some Jews had planned to embrace Islam in the morning, and then denounce it in the evening saying that they had observed the Holy Prophet ﷺ closely but he wasn't the Prophet whose arrival had been forecast in Torah. They believed that this way at least some of the Muslims would think that if these people who are scholars of Torah have reached this conclusion after embracing Islam then there must be some genuine reason behind their reaching this conclusion.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 65-67

TRANSLATION:

[3:65]
O people of the Book, why do you argue about Ibrahim, while the Torah and the Injil were not revealed until after him? Have you, then, no sense?

[3:66]
Look, this is what you are you have already argued about matters concerning which you have knowledge; why then do you argue about matters of which you have no knowledge? {26} Allah knows and you do not know.

[3:67]
Ibrahim was neither a Jew nor a Christian. But he was upright, a Muslim, and was not one of those who associate partners with Allah.

INTERPRETATION:

{26} The Jews (at the time of the Holy Prophet ﷺ) used to insist that Hazrat Ibrahim (Abraham) AS was a Jew, and the Christians used to say that he was a Christian. In this verse the Quran Karim says that both these religions came into being after Torah and Injil (Bible) were revealed, while Hazrat Ibrahim AS had passed away long before either of these books were revealed. Therefore, there is no basis to call him a Jew or a Christian. Then the Holy Quran says that when those of your arguments, which were based on some truth, have failed to prove your claims, then how can your statement about Hazrat Ibrahim AS, which is not based on any reality, can prove your claim of him being a Jew or a Christian. For example, you knew about Hazrat Isa (Jesus) AS that he was born without a father, and on that basis you tried to argue that he was God, but you did not succeed because being born without a father is no proof that someone is God. Hazrat Adam AS was born without both mother and father, and yet no one says that he was God, or son of God. When your those claims which were based on some element of truth were not successful, then how can a claim which is not based on any reality that Hazrat Ibrahim AS was a Christian or a Jew, can be accepted.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 62-64

TRANSLATION:

[3:62]
This is, indeed, the true narration. There exists no god but Allah. Allah is surely the Almighty, the All-Wise.

[3:63]
So, should they turn back, Allah is fully aware of the mischievous people.

[3:64]
Say, "O people of the Book, come to a word common between us and between you, that we worship none but Allah, that we associate nothing with Him and that some of us do not take others as Lords instead of Allah". Then, should they turn back, say, .Bear witness that we are Muslims.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 56-61

TRANSLATION:

[3:56]
As for those who disbelieve, I shall punish them a severe punishment in this world and in the Hereafter; and for them there are no helpers.

[3:57]
As for those who believe and do good deeds, He (Allah) will give them their rewards in full. Allah does not like transgressors.

[3:58]
This We recite to you of the Verses and the Message that is full of wisdom.

[3:59]
Surely, the case of Isa , in the sight of Allah, is like the case of ‘Adam . He created him from dust, then He said to him, "Be", and he came to be.

[3:60]
The truth is from your Lord. So, do not be of those who doubt.

[3:61]
If someone argues with you (O Prophet) over this after the knowledge that has come to you, say (to him), "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then (let us) pray and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars". {25}

INTERPRETATION:

{25} This process is called Mubahila. During an argument, rather than accept the other person's cogent argument, if one person becomes absolutely rigid, then the last resort is to invite him for Mubahila which means that lets pray together to Allah Ta'alah that who amongst us in the wrong and is lying, may die. As was mentioned in the beginning of this Surah a delegation from the Christians in Najran city had come to meet the Holy Prophet ﷺ. They argued with the Holy Prophet about Hazrat Isa AS being God, which was satisfactorily replied to in the previous verses of the Holy Quran. When they kept insisting on their point of view after such clear arguments then this verse advised the Holy Prophet ﷺ to invite them for Mubahila. The Holy Prophet gave them that invitation and and also gathered his family (اہلِ بیت) but the delegation ran away.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 54-55

TRANSLATION:

[3:54]
They (the opponents of Isa ) devised a plan, and Allah devised a plan. And Allah is the best of all planners.

[3:55]
When Allah said: .O Isa , I am to take you in full and to raise you towards Myself, {23} and to cleanse you of those who disbelieve, and to place those who follow you above those who disbelieve up to the Day of Doom. {24} Then to Me is your return, whereupon I shall judge between you in that over which you have differed.

INTERPRETATION:

{23 } The enemies of Hazrat Isa AS (Jesus) had planned to nail him to a cross. However, Allah Ta'alah lifted him to the Heavens. Allah Ta'alah turned one of the people who had come to arrest Hazrat Isa AS into his look alike, and the enemies nailed him to a cross believing that he was Hazrat Isa AS. The translation of this verse here is based on the literal meaning of the Arabic word "توفی", and a big group of Interpreters of the Holy Quran have adopted the same meaning. There is another possible meaning of this word which has been adopted by Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas RAA, and has been explained in Ma'ariful Quran volume 2.

{24} It means that the followers of Hazrat Isa AS (whether they are true followers like Muslims, or followers who have exaggerated his status) will always dominate the enemies of Hazrat Isa AS. That is the way it has always been in history. If exceptionally his enemies achieved domination for a short period in hundreds of years of history it doesn't go against this rule.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 50-53

TRANSLATION:

[3:50]
(I have come to you) confirming that (book) which is (sent down) prior to me, that is, the Torah, and to make permissible for you some of what was prohibited to you. {21} I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. So, fear Allah and obey me.

[3:51]
Allah is surely my Lord and your Lord. So, worship Him. This is the straight path.

[3:52]
So, when Isa sensed disbelief in them, he said: .Who are my helpers in the way of Allah?. The disciples said: We are helpers of Allah. We believe in Allah; so be our witness that we are Muslims.

[3:53]
Our Lord, we have believed in what You have revealed, and we have followed the messenger. So, record us with those who bear witness (to the Truth).

INTERPRETATION:

{21} Certain items had been declared Hara'am in the Sharia of Bani Isra'il, for example meat and fat of camels, certain birds and some types of fish. These were declared Halal in the Sharia of Hazrat Isa (AS).

{22} Hawari was the title of the companions of Hazrat Isa AS.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 47-49

TRANSLATION:

[3:47]
She said: .O my Lord, how shall I have a son while no human has ever touched me?. Said He: .That is how Allah creates what He wills. When He decides a matter, He simply says to it =Be‘, and it comes to be.

[3:48]
He shall teach him the Book and the Wisdom, and the Torah and the Injil,

[3:49]
and (shall make him) a messenger to the Children of Isra‘il (who will say to them): .I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that is, I create for you from clay something in the shape of a bird, then I blow in it, and it becomes a living bird by the will of Allah; and I cure the born-blind and the leper, and I cause the dead to become alive by the will of Allah; and I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your homes. In this there is surely a sign for you, if you are (truly) believers

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 43-46

TRANSLATION:

[3:43]
O Maryam, stand in devotion to your Lord and prostrate yourself and bow down in Ruku= with those who bow.. [3:44]

This is a part of the news of the unseen We reveal to you (O Prophet!). You were not with them when they were casting their pens (to decide) who, from among them, should be the guardian of Maryam, nor were you with them when they were quarrelling.
[3:45]
(Remember the time) when the angels said: .O Maryam, Allah gives you the good news of a Word from Him whose name is MasiH Isa , the son of Maryam (the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary) a man of status in this world and in the Hereafter, and one of those who are near (to Allah).
[3:46]
He shall speak to people while (he is still) in the cradle, and also later, when he is of mature age; and he shall be one of the righteous..

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 40-42

TRANSLATION:

[3:40]
He said: .O my Lord, how shall I have a boy when old age has come upon me and my wife is barren? [15] Said He: .That is how Allah does what He wills..
[3:41]
He said: .O my Lord, set for me a sign.. Said He: .Your sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three days except through gestures. [16] Remember your Lord much; and proclaim His purity in the evening and the morning..
[3:42]
And when the angels said: .O Maryam, Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you over the women of all the worlds.

INTERPRETATION:

[15] Because Hazrat Zakariyya AS had prayed for the child himself he didn't ask this question because, God forbid, he had any doubts. He asked this question in surprise over this incredible good news, which is a way of doing Shukr (thanks to Allah Ta'alah). Also, it was a way of asking whether the child would be born while he and his wife stayed old, or whether he and his wife would be returned to a younger age. Allah Ta'alah replied, "That is how..." which meant that the son would be born in this state of old age.

[16] Hazrat Zakariyya meant to ask for a sign that would tell him that conception had taken place, so that he would start saying Shukr to Allah Ta'alah from that time. Allah Ta'alah told him that when conception had taken place then he would be afflicted with a condition in which he would not be able to talk to anyone besides doing Allah's Zikr (remembrance) and reciting His name. And if he needed to communicate with anyone he would need to do it through gestures.

Monday 7 August 2017

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 38-39

TRANSLATION:

[3:38]

Thereupon, Zakariyya prayed to his Lord. He said: .O my Lord, grant me from Your own (power) a goodly progeny. Verily, You are the One who listens to the prayer. [12]

[3:39]

So then, when he stood praying in the place of worship, the angels called out to him saying: .Allah gives you the good news of Yahya who shall come to confirm a word of Allah [13], and shall be a chief, abstinent (from women) [14], a prophet and one of the righteous.

INTERPRETATION:

[12] Hazrat Maryam AS used to receive out of season fruits by the grace of Allah Ta'alah. Upon seeing this it occurred to Hazrat Zakariyya AS that the same God who could give her out of season fruits could also grant him a child in old age. Therefore, he made the prayer.

[13] The term "Word of Allah" (کلمتہ الّٰلہ) mentioned in this verse refers to Hazrat Essa (AS). As has been mentioned in the beginning of this Surah he is called "کلمتہ الّٰلہ" because he was born without a father with Allah's word "کن". Hazrat Yahya AS was born before Hazrat Essa AS and verified his arrival.

[14] It has been mentioned as a special characteristic of Hazrat Yahya AS that he will have full control over his innate desires. Even though this characteristic is common to all the Prophets but it was especially mentioned in relation to Hazrat Essa AS because he remained so engrossed in praying to Allah Ta'alah that he did not develop a desire to get married. Even though under normal circumstance Nikah is Sunnah and people have been encouraged to do Nikah, but if someone has as much control over his innate desires as Hazrat Yahya AS had then it is okay for him to remain a bachelor.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 37

TRANSLATION
[3:37]
So, her Lord accepted her, a good acceptance, and made her grow, a good growth, and made Zakariyya her guardian. Whenever Zakariyya visited her at the place of worship, he found food with her. He said: .Maryam, from where did you have this?. She said: .It is from Allah. Surely, Allah gives whom He wills without measure..
INTERPRETATION
Hazrat Imran was the Imam of Bait-al-Maqdis. His wife's names was Hannah. She did not have any children, therefore, she had vowed that if she had any child she would devote that child for serving Bait-al-Maqdis. After Hazrat Maryam was born Hazrat Imran passed away. Hazrat Zakaria was hazrat Imran's brother-in-law. When the question arose as to who would be Hazrat Maryam's guardian it was decided through a toss that Hazrat Zakaria will become her guardian.

PRINCIPLES OF TABLEEGH (PREACHING) - Part 6

WHEN ARE AMR-BIL-MARU'F AND HAHI-ANIL-MUNKIR FARD (COMPULSORY)?

There are two main types of Ibadah (acts of worship). The first type are those which are Fard (compulsory) or Wajib (necessary) like Salah, fasting in Ramadan, Zakah, and Hajj. The second type are those which are Sunnah or Mustahab (desirable) like doing miswak, saying Bismillah before starting to eat food, drinking water in three sips, etc. This includes all the Sunnah that the Holy Prophet ﷺ performed as a matter of habit. Similarly there are two categories of sins. The first are those which have been declared Hara'am and have been expressly forbidden in Shariah. The second are those which are not Hara'am but are not in conformity with the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, or are not according to etiquettes and thus not desirable.

If a person is neglecting Fard or Wajib Ibadah, or is committing sins which have clearly been declared Hara'am, then in those situations Amr-bil-Maru'f and Nahi-anil-Munkir and Fard-e-Ayn (obligatory upon every Muslim). For example, if a person is driving alcohol, or is committing adultery, or is doing backbiting (Gheebat), or tells lies, then because all of these acts are expressly Hara'am, Nahi-anil-Munkir is Fard (compulsory) in these situations. Similarly, if a person is neglecting Fard Salah, does not pay Zakah, or does not fast in Ramadan, then it is Fard to try to encourage him to do these.

SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 31-32

TRANSLATION

[3:31]
Say (O Prophet): .If you really love Allah, then follow me, and Allah shall love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful..

[3:32]
Say: .Obey Allah and the Messenger.. Then, should they turn back, Allah does not love the disbelievers..

TAFSIR (INTERPRETATION)

In the interpretation of these verses Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi RE has written that in these verses Allah Ta'alah has told those people who claim to love Him, what the true criterion of His love is. If someone claims to love Allah Ta'alah the real yardstick to judge whether he truly loves Allah is how closely he follows the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in his Ibadah (acts of worship), in his behaviour, in his way of dealing with people, and in his transactions. The more closely a person's behaviour resembles the Holy Prophet ﷺ the more credible his claim that he loves Allah Ta'alah, and vice versa. One cannot claim to love Allah Ta'alah, and not follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Furthermore, Allah Ta'alah  says that if someone starts following the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ Allah Ta'alah will start loving him. What greater reward can there be for an insignificant human being to be loved by Allah Ta'alah!

In a Hadith the Holy Prophet ﷺ has said, "He who obeyed Muhammad (ﷺ) obeyed Allah and he who disobeyed Muhammad (ﷺ) disobeyed Allah." (Tafsir Mazhari)
